Title

The ACHIEVE project: An interactive embodied play environment that lets children discover the impact that nutrition has on their health and the natural environment in a playful way

Description

The average Dutch diet is not a very healthy one. In addition, what we eat in the Netherlands affects the environment in major ways. Researchers and students at the University of Twente therefore launched the ACHIEVE project. In this project they will develop an interactive embodied play environment that lets children discover the impact that nutrition has on their health and the natural environment in a playful way.

This play environment will be developed for a supermarket-setting, as you can reach a wide audience in a supermarket, not just people who are already interested in the subject. It is also a place that parents and children visit together, and where they make choices about whether or not to buy something.

The project consists of two phases. In the first phase secondary school students and students from the Interaction Technology Master Programme will develop many ideas on what this play environment could be like. In the second stage the researchers will take the most interesting ideas to build such a play environment and implement and test it in a supermarket.
